AN INVITE TO ATTEND THE 500TH SHOW RECORDING
greenham common airbase, newbury, Berkshire: JULY 30TH, 2025 10AM
WHAT IS THIS EVENT?
Join us for a summer Photowalk Podcast meet-up, where stories, walking boots, and cameras come together for a morning of gentle exploration and creative conversation as we record the 500th edition of the show. Full address in the Q&A below.
We’ll be meeting at Greenham Common, a place layered with history and atmosphere. Once a military airbase at the heart of Cold War tensions, it was home to American cruise missiles and became a focal point for peace protests in the 1980s, led famously by the Women’s Peace Camp. Today, the fences are down, and in their place lies open heathland, wild grasses, and a horizon that belongs to everyone.
It’s a place that invites walking with intention, and photographing with curiosity. Whether you're capturing the textures of nature reclaiming space, or pausing at the old control tower with its echo of stories past, Greenham is a landscape that reveals more the slower you go.
Bring a camera (or a phone), good shoes, and maybe a story to share about your own photography. Whether you’ve been listening from the start or you’ve only just discovered the show, all are welcome. Let’s walk, talk, and make a few frames together.
NEALE JAMES

WHAT IS THE PHOTOWALK SHOW?
Every Friday, a new episode steps out into the world, a walk for the mind, the camera, and the soul. This isn’t about chasing the perfect picture. It’s about noticing, pausing, and letting the rhythm of your footsteps tune you into the stories around you.
Join photographer and broadcaster Neale James as he reads letters from listeners, shares thoughts from the trail, and speaks with photographers and creatives from around the world.
It’s a show about the ‘why’ behind the picture. A gentle companion for those who find meaning in walking slowly, camera in hand, heart open.

We’ll be meeting at 10am at the Control Tower, Burys Bank Rd, Newbury, Thatcham RG19 8BZ.
This gives us a chance to meet with flasks and a smile, departing for our walk, which will probably last up to two hours.
Following the walk, we’ll return to the café for coffee and refreshments.
Because we can’t cater for all tastes and dietary requirements, we ask you to look after your own orders.
We may well have a good supply of Garibaldis though!
-
None. Just bring your smile and personality.
-
Well, yes, if they’re well-behaved and don’t chase cattle! This isn’t a dog walk though, just as an aside.
