One of the most personable landscape photography YouTubers to walk the fells of England’s Lake District is my guest this week, Glenn, AKA Black Crag, named after a geological feature of this extraordinary part of the UK. In his words, “I'll normally be found on a fell side or rummaging around in a deep ghyll somewhere because the Lake District is more than just my home; it's my lifeblood,” and I suspect after hearing today’s show you’ll have subscribed not just in terms of his channel, but with respect to his outlook on how precious it is to be out in nature.

SHUTTER SYNC

Per Birkhaug: Time for another letter from Norwayland. I was listening to the latest episode yesterday morning, doing my regular Saturday workout, when you mentioned taking up again the challenge of making a photo of what is directly in front of us, as you do the very thing. It's obviously not at the same time, but still, it's nice to pretend it is. And here is my shot of what was directly in front of me at the time... Oh well. Better luck next time I suppose.

Paul Friday: Not out walking today because I jumped off the wrong boat. There I was, scuba diving in Scotland from a converted trawler. We have to jump in from the deck, which is about head-height above the water. This is normal, and I've done it at least a hundred times. But this time the water caught one fin and pushed my foot back. I felt an impact on my calf and thought I'd clipped something on the side of the boat. I found out later that the feeling of impact is your Achilles tendon snapping. So now I'm in a boot while I wait for the stitched ends to fuse. I think this counts as a 'bet you wish you weren't here' postcard. Looking on the bright side, I have a sexy scar that can be spun into tales of sharks and derring-do in exchange for beer!

Paul Morgan: My Shutter Sync is a phone shot of the type of hooligans we get in our village, and this one came through just as you prompted. Every summer (and this Friday was the start of vintage vehicle season) hordes of these nutters tear along the lanes at speeds of anywhere between 4 and 6 mph (hence the blur on the image – hard to catch them when they go that fast). On a warm evening as many as 8 or 10 congregate in the pub carpark – in reality it’s actually very nice.

André Grote: I have taken the picture near the Kamener Kreuz on the A2 on my biweekly drive to pick up my eldest autistic son from Dortmund. The photo was taken on my old Canon G5.

Kelvin Brown: As I spend 90% of my day driving I have to be careful where I am during the shutter sync section of the show. So, if I'm on a motorway or main road, I will either pause until at a safe place to pull off the road, or, wait at the roadside before travelling on to my next destination .

In the case of the Shetland pony, I had just left the A1 at South Mimms on the way to the Royal veterinary college there. Taken 4th June 9.45am.
