#188 CENSORSHIP, TRUTH & THE INSTAGRAM GAME
Want some forthright thinking today? NYC and LA street photographer, social documentarian and free spirited thinker, Suzanne Stein talks about a photographic purpose in life, street shooting in NYC and on Skid Row, the power and disappointment of social media, self belief, censorship and tech mistakes that lead to creative gold.
Our Patron of the day goes to Lynn Fraser, here’s a link to her abandoned places photography. I have a particular fascination for abandoned places and cliché though it may be, the town of Pripyat in the Chernobyl zone was and will always be a story I am drawn to. I remember that particular story from my late teens as if it were yesterday. Here’s a link to a YouTube film by a presenter who goes by the name Bald and Bankrupt, can’t think why that appeals to me so much, but his film is one of the more human story accounts of a visit to a much over recorded abandoned place. See what you’ve done Lynn, I’m off visiting YouTube again! Anyway, “Photography is my escape from the daily grind,” says Lynn; “I can quite happily 'lose' several hours when out with my camera, often not moving very far in that time. I've found a creative streak I didn't know existed and I am loving exploring it.”
