#73 LEARNINGS FROM SALGADO, BRESSON, CAPA…

Today Edmond Terakopian returns for the final part of a mini series and muses about his many inspirations, how important social media is and books; one book in particular. He also reveals how working backstage at fashion shows provides a form of creative release from the calls of more ‘serious stories’ and continues to talk of the stories that affected him deeply whilst making pictures as a photojournalist.

Welcome to a new week and thank you to www.imagesalon.com - outsource your post production and spend more time shooting and working on your business with 25% off your first order in 2020. If sitting at a computer has become the least pleasurable part of your life as a photographer, then imagesalon.com may just have the perfect solution.

Thank you to those of you who have written in to say you’ve enjoyed the move to mini series presentations with some of our guests, it seems a popular feature and I can now let you know about some similar series coming up. I spoke with Niall Carson on Friday, shot and injured in photographic action, attacked and punched by an MP (unprovoked I might add on both counts) and concerned the cries of fake news have ushered in a new and uncomfortable period for photographers documenting important news features. It’ll make for fascinating listening I promised. Also, Bill Wadman from New York will be on to talk about his incredibly inventive mind in the studio and on that note British creative portrait photographer Charlie Clift starts his mini series this week. So much to come, including the visual artist Erik Johansson whose ideas will literally blow your mind when you see his work.

Paul Dadge leads Davinia Turrell (now Davinia Douglass) away from Edgware Road tube station after a suicide bomb attack in which she suffered burn injuries, resulting in the need for a face mask. The bomber blew himself up on a train at the station, killing seven passengers - one of four coordinated attacks on London's public transport system during the morning rush hour. The bombs exploded within 50 seconds of each other on London Underground trains, and the fourth bomb occurred on a bus less than an hour later. The explosions resulted in some 56 deaths (including those of the four bombers) and 700 injuries. Surveillance video footage showed that the four men had been working together. Intelligence services have claimed links between the bombers and al-Qaeda. Edgware Road underground station, London, United Kingdom. July 07, 2005. Photo: Edmond Terakopian
