#195 FRIDAY PHOTOWALK: GONE FISHING

In honour of 'George,' today's photowalk mailbag edition takes us on a lake and riverside walk where the recent rains have the banks close to bursting. In this show; Tim Bindner is on a winterland walk, Jason Phang on staying motivated, there’s feedback to the Nancy Borowick episode and some personal family stories. Comments too about Monday’s edition when photojournalists Andy Aitchison and Niall Carson talked of their arrests while making pictures about news issues, Lynn Fraser eyes up a Leica Monochrom, we talk favourites focal length and building your own camera! Further pictures from contributors below and if you’d like to send in your own photowalk pictures (2000 pixels long edge), send comments about episodes you’ve heard or just let us know what you’re photographically up to, write to: studio@photographydaily.show

FROM TODAY, THE NEW PHOTOGRAPHY DAILY INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT GOES LIVE and of course we also have our friendly group waiting to meet you in the Facebook group.

As ever the show is supported by our wonderful friends at MPB.com, a sustainable way to drive the circular economy when buying, selling or trading used camera gear in the US, UK or Europe.

A special mention today for Elias Kamaratos whose message particularly touched us this week; “Much has been said about the power of photography to heal and/or act as a psychological support during difficult times. I would like to share with you a series of photos I made in Australia in 2014 when my father suffered a stroke. Sitting by his hospital bed, I saw him making strange, yet oddly familiar, gestures with his hands. It suddenly dawned on me that he was back on our island in Greece baiting a hook and fishing off the side of his boat. After spending seven years bed-ridden, yesterday at age 92, he finally found rest. Unable to attend the funeral because of Covid and living in France, editing these photos gave me that much-needed psychological support and closure.” The pictures Elias talks of are below and we’ve named the show in honour of his father, George. We’re sorry for your loss and thankful for the beautiful set of photographers you shared.

Elias Kamaratos’ wonderful tribute to his late father; ‘Gone fishing.’

Jason Phang’s night walk in New Zealand. Is that people minus face masks? What a world awaits the rest of us again. One day soon.

Tim Bindners late winterland walk Charlestown State Park, Indiana.

Lynn Fraser’s Monochrom wanderings.

Zeeshan Khan’s ‘Vessel’ pictures by Hudson Yards in Manhattan.

My own quiet walk riverside as the waters rise.
