#242 FROSTBITE BEFORE YOU CAN LOAD A FILM! HENRIK SAXGREN

Making pictures at -35 degrees Celsius in Greenland. Your hands can freeze, long before you load a film chamber. Today, Henrik Saxgren, an internationally renowned photographer who has spent a lifetime making pictures of people who need a voice talks about his latest book Ultima Thule. It's a story of life in Greenland, an account about the reality of living in a part of the world where the hunters are the hunted, where age old traditions are still practised; an honest and authentic pictorial study of life in the arctic.

Patron of the Day today is Lynn Fraser and for good reason when I consider geographic isolation playing a part in today’s story. Lynn writes: “Photography is my escape from the daily grind; I can quite happily lose several hours when out with my camera, often not moving very far in that time. I love to travel; photography has given me the means visit the places I want to see and experience, in the company of like-minded people, and along the way I have made some wonderful friends. It's opened doors to the world and, maybe more importantly, doors within me.”  In 2016, Lynn spent two weeks in a national park in Western Mongolia with Kazakh nomads, some of whom were eagle hunters, as she described; “The Kazakhs were some of the most welcoming, hospitable people I have met on my travels over the years.” See the photo using the link above.

We’re also supported by MPB.com, the number one platform when it comes to trust for buying, selling and trading used camera gear with offices and warehouses now in Brighton UK, Brooklyn USA, and now Berlin for Europe. If you have kit for sale, or kit you want to buy, MPB help feed the circular economy and so there’s a sustainable way to shop too.
