#236 ROGUE HIPPOS! & PHOTOGRAPHING DURING A DICTATORSHIP

Today two stories featuring humanitarian photojournalist Jason Florio. In the first we talk about a photo expedition he took with his wife and business partner Helen Jones-Florio along the Gambia River, which sounds beautifully romantic and exotic in equal measure, but doesn’t come without its wildlife challenges as you’re about to find out. And then in part two of our conversation, we discuss moving to Africa, living initially under a regime that didn’t encourage open documentary work or journalism or indeed anyone who might want to talk of uncomfortable truths in a country which has the motto, progress, peace and prosperity.

Patron of the Day today is David Tanner. Clearly David, summer has arrived… hoorah, and I can see it in the contrasty pictures showing clear and deep skies, vibrant colours and a floral carpet spreading across the beautiful county of Northumberland in north east England, your photographic playground.

We’re also supported by MPB.com who help you buy, sell and trade used camera gear in the US, the UK and Europe and here’s two reasons why you can trust them for your picture making. One: Peace of mind when you’re buying in the form of a guarantee and two: money in your bank quickly when you sell. So if you want to buy, sell or trade used gear and be part of the ever important circular economy, MPB.com is a great place to do business.

Thanks to our Patrons who continue to support the show and join our growing Facebook group.
