#107 SHOT, BY GUN, NOT BY CAMERA!
Niall Carson a respected Press Association photojournalist returns for part two in his Tuesday series of making stories without fear. We talk about why the attitude towards photojournalists worldwide has hardened and what may be behind it. We discuss the risks he has personally taken to deliver news pictures, including being attacked in his car, and shot by a dissident republican whilst photographing a riot in Northern Ireland.
He talks too of the journalist and writer Lyra McKee who in 2019 lost her life when taking cover behind an armoured vehicle.
Today's show is kindly supported by MPB, trading thousands of cameras and lenses every week across Europe and the US.
MPB have a very active blog which supports and reports on photographers who are working on unique and particular photo projects. I came across an article on their blog which in terms of photojournalism is certainly worth a read. The Black Lives Matter protests have been an important world focus news story this summer. MPB have a base in Brooklyn, and the team members there documented the protests and in a two-part video series on Black Lives Matter protest photography, they shine a light on this important time in our history. The feature is called Embracing the Movement, and photographers from the MPB team openly share their photos and stories about the protests and the movement.
