#412 PHOTOWALK: HAVING THE ‘STEELE’ TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE

FEATURING PHOTOGRAPHERS RACHELLE STEELE AND VALÉRIE JARDIN

Nine years in the US Navy, Rachelle Steele learned her photographic craft the hard way in operations that tested her resolve. She laid down the camera for five years before rediscovering a love for black and white photography, studying at the Academy of Art University, which lead to new adventures, making collections of storytelling photographs of her life and for others. Also today demons in markets, biscuits that take your teeth out, pictures and memories of ancient henges, Canadian wildlife and Visual Stories for December with Valérie Jardin.

Email your stories, thoughts, and pictures to the show. If you can optimize/resize photos to 2,500 pixels wide, that’s always much appreciated. If you’d like to support this show and have access to further content and the midweek Extra Mile show, we’d welcome you as an EXTRA MILER. DON RIDGWAY (WITH NO E!)

Don Ridgway shares photographs of his travels in the UK, visiting the ancient stones and burial grounds. Further info as further pictures were received following the recording: The Avebury Circle photo is from 2014, and so is the Stonehenge photo (that one taken from the coach window, not bad, considering it was taken with my still-treasured Fuji XQ-1, which gives lovely B&W photos). The Ring of Brodgar photo is from last May, on a National Geographic cruise around the Scottish Isles, just wonderful. And fourth, another sort-of-sacred stone photo: the Old Man of Storr on the Isle of Skye from across Loch Fada. I’m sure the little tree on the island was provided by Central Casting. On the way back to the car, I was given a certificate validating me as the 8,755th photographer to take that photo. (I was also shooting with the XT-3, but this one with the phone is my choice, a bit embarrassing.)
