Another newbie to Photography Daily, and delighted to have found you and your fabulous podcasts. You have been keeping me company whilst we renovate our house in Kintyre, Scotland, and I have loved being introduced to the wonderful stories of photographers of all genres, both professional and amateur. Having had a pretty turbulent time during the C years, selling up and moving house from France to UK, renting for 6 months before finding our (rather tired) forever home on the Kintyre Peninsula. It has been two years of dust, packing cases and distractions and my cameras have provided me with my moments of tranquillity during times of chaos.

I rediscovered photography when I was approaching retirement and our move to France a few years back. Although I have always had a camera, and taken photos, I left it to others to take the decent shots, happily accepting snapping some much loved family memories. 8 months prior to my retirement my photographer son James gave me a Canon DSLR (one we had previously given to him for a birthday!), and I decided that as I would have the time, I would learn what the mysterious world of the camera was all about, so having sapped the will to live from my patient son through asking basic questions (what’s a leading line?) I enrolled on my first camera course. I love learning, so have been very happy adding to my knowledge and skill ever since. My very generous husband Philip gave me a 100-400 Canon Lens for Christmas just before I retired, so obviously I had to learn how to use it, an excuse for the learning journey.

My two dogs Max and Billy have been my favourite and most generous models for honing my camera skills, but in reality I haven’t really found a style or genre that I can hang my hat on (although I know for certain it’s not people or street photography), listening to the podcasts has made my concerns about that so much better, I am happy to take and process photos just for my pleasure, and am happy if others like them, but I’ve learnt not to sweat the small stuff over likes. Thank you and your guest speakers for that wonderful advice.

I thought that I would send a 360 photograph. I had an unexpected early morning trip to collect an item from Glasgow this morning (7-hour round trip!), and of course, the camera comes everywhere with me, well it is Scotland! I hope you like the photo, it’s a shot from the “wee road” that runs from Carradale up the Eastern side of the Kintyre peninsula, overlooking the Kilbrannan Sound, and the Isle of Arran. I never tire of the light across the water, or just standing looking at the sea, it really is an amazing place to live.
