365:80 LYNN FRASER

I'd like to share another of my favourite images with you for the 365. Back in the days when we could travel, or when it was at least a lot easier than it is now, I went to Zimbabwe. One of the highlights of the trip was lying in dried hippo dung (weird I know!) in Hwange National Park watching a huge herd of buffalo approaching this water hole. With only a short stretch of water and a few hippos between us and the buffalo (two of the most dangerous animals in Africa), it was breathtaking watching them emerge from the dust to drink. There was wave upon wave of buffalo and they were five deep at times. In some ways it made me think of those old Westerns and the large herds of cattle in them kicking up the dust.

NOTE FROM THE SHOW: Perfect for today’s subject matter on the Photowalk as we talk with photographer Nick Brandt about his work in Africa.
