#339 ASSIGNMENT: CHRIS ORANGE #1

Food and interiors specialist Chris Orange sets his first assignment for the show, though you'll not be necessarily photographing inside! It's a challenge set for the next seven days; a way to think differently about how you approach making your pictures. I'll be fascinated to see what you come up with, so email what you make to the show via stories@photowalk.show

My thanks to MPB.com who sponsor this show; the number one company in the UK, the US and Europe when it comes to buying, selling, and trading quality used camera kit online – it’s a safe place to do business, with guarantees upon what you buy and a sustainable way to trade in the circular economy.

Also my sincere thanks to our wonderful patrons, our ‘Extra Milers’ who help to support this show.

Chris Orange.

BY MATT OGIER-RUSSELL

I've not written for a while now, busy with life - you know what it's like, but do listen to the show on my ‘Monday off’ whilst out walking Willow Bufferty for our weekly ‘Long walk with Matt’ which is my excuse for ticking off an item on the RAC (recurring action checklist - a google sheet that I share with Nikki, my other half, with ALL THE JOBS that need doing on a regular basis be that feed puppy twice a day to paint outside of house" every 15 years or so) but is, in reality, an excuse to relax, unwind and focus away from all that's going on at home and work and spend some me time with a camera or two.

My regular route takes me round the side of the allotments at the end of the road, along the ‘Oak Hedge’ at the back of the garden, along a footpath parallel to the M1 and on to leafy tunnels, open fields and back through the village. I have made loads of pictures on this routine in various formats and cameras including the trust iPhone, DSLR and analogue 35mm on my new love the ME Super (including my 1st foray into IR images!) I've always loved the architectural quality of the Hog Weed (or is it cow parsley ... at least it's not the Giant Hogweed that makes you hypersensitive to sunlight for YEARS if you get it on your skin).

Having just listened to Chris Orange's assignment as I came across a stand of tall spiky hogweed I got down onto my posterior, pointed the camera (this week a Samgsung compact) into the sun and started making photos. Now normally I don't get many good photos of Willow, she either has her tongue hanging out in an un-ladylike fashion or all you can see is her rear end and tail sticking out of the undergrowth. But as I was seated on the floor she wandered into shot looking quite handsome and almost intelligent. I took the shot attached. At this point I realised that she was looking at a fellow dog walker who was tentatively approaching me - she thought I had fallen or collapsed (I failed to hear her approach as I was still listening to PW#338 on headphones!)
