#321 ASSIGNMENT: ED KASHI

Ed Kashi, fresh from his appearance on Friday’s Photowalk show returns to set an assignment and I feel honoured that this is one he hasn’t set his international students, yet. We'll both be fascinated to see what you come up with following today's challenge, so please be sure to send your photographs to the show, and I will share the pictures you make for this challenge, 2000 pixels wide, or best quality out of a smartphone. Send them to studio@photographydaily.show

My thanks to our wonderful Patrons and MPB.com who sponsor this show; the number one company in the UK, the US and Europe when it comes to buying, selling, and trading used camera kit online – it’s a safe place to do business, with guarantees upon what you buy.

Ed Kashi today asks you to shoot with an abandoned sense about you and shares an example above which demonstrates what he means.

Here is my entry for the Ed Kashi assignment. No viewfinder, no LCD screen. Just a street shot in good old Hays, Kansas.

Please consider my image ‘The Shopper’ for inclusion to #321 the Assignment: Ed Kashi. The shot was achieved by posting camera from the hip at the shopper entering a B&Q superstore close to where I live. RAW, Lr, Lr preset, slight crop, some tweaking to exposure, clarity and shadows.

I enjoy listening to your podcast, especially when I’m also walking around. I live in Istanbul, though have visited London many times for the past 40 years. I am a retired Chief Information Officer (IT) from a global company and I'm now 67. I took up photography seriously just before the pandemic, hence it has been rather a stressful 3 years period due to the difficulty in practising street photography which I most enjoy. Nevertheless, I have tried to learn and improve myself despite. I use two different gear sets; a Ricoh GR III, and a Canon EOS RP with 35,50,85 and 24-105 RF lenses. For this assignment, I chose the 2 photos because they were taken from the belt candidly while walking without a pause, with the GRIII. I hope you like them. (Both of them were edited with Adobe Lightroom and Nik Collection Silver Efex Pro 3).

Here is my entry for the assignment. It's ideal for street photography, which unfortunately isn't an option for me this week, since Covid finally caught up with me. Luckily, it's not nearly as bad as a flu I had a few weeks ago, just really bad timing as I'm due to fly back to Scotland (from Australia) on Saturday, one day out of isolation. Anyway, people shots in self-isolation offers limited subjects! So here's a stylised shot of me all masked up for Covid control while self-isolating at home. Oh, yes those are a few of my camera bags in the background. Can never have enough of them. Enjoying some of the back catalogue to keep me from going stir crazy.
