#251 INSTAGRAM: LOVE, HATE, NEED, WANT and and and…
Since Instagram made the announcement that they would no longer solely be a photo sharing app, many creators and photographers have been running in all directions, some in free fall panic it would seem, not sure whether their Insta experience is about to implode. Two guests today to talk about IG; Jonny Keely who has been studying the platform for a series of films and Helen Jones-Florio who uses the platform to show works from her African and Maltese passion project about doors and shopfronts, plus contributors from the Facebook group asked for their thoughts prior to the show, including Christopher O’Sullivan, Will Simmonds, Sue Sayer, Elias Kamaratos, Dennis Skyum, Eric DeLorme, Nanto Ceilens, Dennis Linden and Dominique Martel. Show image today by Claudio Schwarz.
Patron of the Day today is Mike South and I’ve chosen him for good reason. He has an Instagram grid that is clearly concentrated upon a cohesive flow of pictures about a subject; “A photogapher with a passion for costume, history and fantasy.” Your portraits, particularly (for me) the WWI soldiers in costume frankly make me feel like I am there. These could so easily be movie/TV set photography pictures and I am left as a viewer, in now doubt how adept and indeed passionate you are behind you camera in telling these stories about history.
We’re supported as you know by our friends at MPB.com, the people and website to go to if you want to buy, sell or trade used camera gear safely in the US, the UK or Europe and right now it’s MPB’s Photo and Video Kit Hall of Fame 2021 with voting open until the 6th August 2021. A committee of world-renowned photographers, journalists, and influencers have selected nominees in five categories: Classic, Game Changer, Iconic, Road Tested and Trendsetter. Now it’s time for you to vote on the best photo and video kit of the digital age. By casting your vote you’ll have a chance to win the 2020 Iconic inductee Hasselblad 500CM.
