#220 WHEN THE NY TIMES PUBLISH YOUR PHOTOSTORY…
Photographer and National Geographic contributor Roff Smith is more used to being on an airliner travelling to his next international story, than working within a ten mile radius of his home on the south coast of England. Featured recently by the New York Times for a wonderful lockdown enforced project where the lanes around his home became his muse, every day he’d cycle for hours to make self portraits during his trips out. Today, the Art of the ride, journeys from my doorstep.
I think it’s too easy to think that you need something exceptionally complex, difficult to pull off, for it to be worthy of shooting or attract attention. This is a story about a photographer who takes a real pleasure in following his instincts to make photo stories and create intriguing assignments for. This is a story about Roff Smith.
Patron of the Day today Is Steve Brand. He started a 365 for the first time in Feb of this year, who says you have to start in January? You can see how he is getting along on his Insta grid. I spied a couple of interesting photographs in there Steve; a red GPO phone box in the middle of a farmers field, which had me perplexed, a sign of the times as Dr. Kate delivers your vaccine and some wonderful sunsets bringing in your next 365 shot.
We’re also supported by MPB.com, the number one platform when it comes to trust for buying, selling and trading used camera gear with offices and warehouses now in Brighton UK, Brooklyn USA, and now Berlin for Europe. I think it’s important to add that it’s a service I personally use. I’ve bought used camera gear through them because I like the idea of a guarantee, I’ve sold kit I no longer use through them and I’ve traded gear in against equipment I really want to add to my kit bag. They make every step of the journey fair and easy for customers in the US, the UK and Europe.
