Growing up a commercial fisherman's son and working aboard the family vessel equates to a deep interest in and love of, the working marine environment. This image is part of an ongoing long term project documenting the remaining industrial marine infrastructure, operational or derelict, and working waterfront in the central island region. Given our location on the west coast of Canada, and specifically the east coast of Vancouver Island, real estate development is rapidly converting (consuming) the working waterfront to "the highest and best use". My project is an attempt to record not just a disappearing way of life but a key piece of our history.
