365:2 MIKE MILLER
This is a case of perseverance. It was just before sunset. A wave of rain came through and a couple of minutes later, there was thunder and lightning. I ran into the cottage before the downpour. If I had packed up my gear then, I would have missed out on this image. The rain stopped after a few more minutes and the storm moved off. I went back to make some images as the clouds continued eastward, but the ambient light was giving too fast of a shutter speed. I looked west and saw that another set of storm clouds were coming in. I redirected my camera towards the incoming weather. I kept adjusting my intervalometer until I was getting 30 second exposures at f/7.1 (the aperture Kodak recommends for lightning photos.) I managed to make five images with lightning visible. This image was the best of the bunch. ISO 100, 30 seconds at f/7.1 at a 13 mm focal length. I cropped the landscape 4x6 to a vertical 4x5 without any additional cropping. Look at the detail in the lightning!! I hope that you like it.
I managed to get back into the cottage just as it was starting to pour again and the lightning was just about on top of us. While my wife told me that my life insurance policy is all paid up, she also mentioned that she was hoping that it would be at least another 30 years before she had to cash it in. She would appreciate if I didn't get myself killed, thank-you very much!
